Welcome, New Board Members

This year, the Alliance says thanks to three long-time Board members who have completed their terms of service. We are grateful to Amanda Davis, Brooke Dabrowski and Eleanor Lorig for contributing so much energy and expertise to our organization.  We are pleased to announce several new additions to our Board of Directors and Advisory Board.

They are:

Cathy Dann, Rosemary Ferrer, Kathy Hanson

Cathy Dann
Cathy Dann joined the Board of Directors in 2009. She worked as a CPA for Price Waterhouse and also in real estate development before moving to Greenwich from Texas in 1998. Cathy has been involved with the Brunswick School in fundraising and served on the Board of Trustees from 2000-2006. She co-chaired the bi-annual Brunswick Fashion show in 2005. In 2007 and again in 2008, she co-chaired the Breast Cancer Alliance annual benefit luncheon. She is also involved with the YWCA in fund raising for their domestic abuse programs, working on the Old Bags Luncheon for the past two years. She will co-chair the 2009 Old Bags Luncheon as well. Cathy and her husband Kevin have two sons, both of whom are students at the University of Pennsylvania.

“My aunt died of breast cancer when she was 55. When the disease was finally diagnosed, her options for treatment were very limited. The work the Breast Cancer Alliance does in education and funding of research to combat this disease is so important. I look forward to working on the board of such a great organization.”

Rosemary Ferrer
Rosemary Ferrer joined the Board of Directors in 2009. She received her B.A. in Psychology at Finch College in New York City before studying at the School of Interior Design and working in advertising in New York City. A resident of Greenwich for the last 10 years, Rosemary has volunteered at Brunswick School, Greenwich Academy, the Historical Society, and the Boys and Girls Club, as well as Family Centers. She also enjoys skiing, golfing, and cooking.  Rosemary and her husband have three children.

“Cancer is no stranger to the Ferrer family, including breast cancer. I have learned a lot from first
hand experience and now I am eager and excited to become an involved member of the Breast Cancer Alliance. I hope to find my niche and make a meaningful contribution to this dynamic organization. I am honored to have become a board member.”

Kathy Hanson
Kathy Hanson joined the Board of Directors in 2009 and has been a member of the Grants Committee since 2006. Kathy is a Critical Care Registered Nurse by profession and also has an MBA from Pace University. She worked in Human Resources for General Foods/Philip Morris/KraftGeneral Foods, specializing in management development training and internal consulting. As a volunteer, Kathy was the Chairman of the Training Committee at the Greenwich Junior League and has taught management development classes there. She also volunteers as a nurse at the Americares Free Clinic in Norwalk. Kathy was a member of the Board of Trustees at The Field Club of Greenwich, Putnam Indian Field School and at Greenwich Academy, where she was also President of the Parents Association. She has chaired or co-chaired auction benefits and various fundraising fairs and been a member of the Parents Board at those schools as well as at Brunswick School. She and her husband have two children in college.

“As a nurse and corporate training professional, my career has always been aimed at helping others. I want to be part of the BCA because my unique background in medicine and business is a perfect fit and one that could add value to an organization that helps so many people. In addition, the generosity of the Greenwich community, with both its time and financial resources, as well as the impressive women already involved in the BCA made me want to be a part of this exemplary organization.”

Advisory Board

Joan Campo Carter
Joan Carter joined the Advisory Board in 2008. A long-time employee of Time Inc., she started her career at the company as a reporter for Fortune Magazine, later switching over to the business side of the company. She is currently Associate Publisher of TIME Style and Design, Time’s luxury publication covering the global world of design, fashion and style. Joan is an art enthusiast and active in many sports such as skiing, golf, and tennis. In November of 2007 she founded and spearheaded the first Greenwich Alzheimer’s Awareness luncheon at Greenwich Country Club to raise funds for, and spread understanding of, this devastating disease (a disease that currently afflicts her mother and did her grandmother as well). She has several dear friends who have battled breast cancer and is enthusiastic about helping to bring further awareness and support for this very important cause.

“I have been an admirer of the great work of the Breast Cancer Alliance as an active participant in its events, and I am looking forward to working on the Board to promote greater awareness and funding.”
