Patrick I. Borgen, MD

Patrick I. Borgen, MD, Director, Brooklyn Breast Cancer Project, Maimonides Cancer Center. His research has advanced the techniques of skin-sparing mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy. Dr. Borgen's research team is currently studying the way cancer cells communicate with one another via recently discovered proteins called cell adhesion molecules. A 1999 Breast Cancer Alliance grant for the purchase of an ABI Prism 377 DNA Sequencer is supporting this research. Dr. Borgen is a Professor of Surgery at Cornell Medical College and an Executive Director of the American Society for the Study of Breast Diseases.
