Karen Newman is a Registered Dietitian with a Masters Degree in Clinical Nutrition from Rush University. She completed her internship in Dietetics at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center. She has a B.S. in Dietetics from the University of Vermont. Her Nutrition career has spanned 21 years and runs the gamete from working at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in NYC as a Research Nutritionist/Nutrition Support Consultant to Owning and Managing her own Nutritional Consulting firm, Nutrifit. Karen has directed a National Corporate Wellness program for Lord and Taylor; hosted a radio show with WAYB call “Dial a Dietitian”; written many articles for Sports Nutrition News, Appeared on Cablevision discussing Nutrition and Exercise; Consulted with numerous sports enthusiasts and has lectured extensively throughout the Northeast on a wide variety of topics including: “Help…I’m Doing a Triathlon”; “The 10 Worst and Best Foods”; and “Brown Bag Lunches your Kids will actually Eat”.

    
In addition to her clinical experiences, Karen has been a 5 time All American Triathlete, a 6 time Team USA World Competitor and winner of numerous triathlons. She is a USAT certified coach with an additional degree in Childhood and Adolescent Obesity Counseling. She coaches Track afters at local schools and works for the Greenwich Track Club; she teaches spin, leads a GOD group, lectures and consults with individuals from all walks of life.

 

Karen Newman is also a cancer survivor. She was diagnosed on March 18, 2008 with stage 3 breast cancer. Despite this diagnosis, Karen went on to finish the World Triathlon Championships in Vancouver BC just 72 hours after receiving her 4^th chemotherapy treatment. She believes that this great challenge of cancer has become one of her greatest blessings. Karen was featured on the TODAY show twice and recently appeared on ABC. Karen spends most of her time giving back to the world …….empowering individuals to live each day as a gift, to GO for their dreams and to spread love throughout the world. Karen married her college sweetheart and together they have three wonderful boys ranging in age from 12-19.

 

Against all odds, Karen qualified for this years WORLD Triathlon Championships in Beijing China where she placed 11^th.   She came in third at the National championships in Burlington Vermont this year and she will represent the United States in Auckland New Zealand in the 2012 World Triathlon Championships.
