Runway Magic
You know you're at the Junior Breast Cancer Alliance Fashion Show when teen models are showing off top designers' spring styles as they gracefully make their way down the iron staircase at Richards of Greenwich. The annual event is the Junior Committee's top fundraiser, raising money to support breast cancer outreach and case managerial services for underserved women. Since 2005, funds raised by the Junior Committee have been dedicated to the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, CT.
Alliance President Debbie Black welcomed the crowd along with Andrew Mitchell-Namdar, whose generous family hosts this show and many other BCA activities. They turned it over to emcee and fashion guru Avril Graham, Executive Fashion & Beauty Editor of Harper’s Bazaar, who dispensed introductions and sage fashion advice. A few tips: sheath dresses are not going away; red is "in" this spring - including red lipstick; a pop of color is super important; and ballet flats are everywhere.
Guests munched on bagels, cupcakes and treats while bidding on silent auction prizes, which ranged from fabulous jewelry to a modeling portfolio consultation to Broadway and Yankees tickets, with Spa Days and home decor mixed in. The show closed with a word from Junior Committee co-chairs Isabelle Andrews, Zoe Blum, Emily Kellam, and Alex Paradise, who recounted the group's year of activities and said, "We're happy to stage a really fun event that helps deserving women get breast exams and education that will ensure their health."
Many thanks to all who helped make this event a success, including Junior co-chair Sydney Simmons, who could not attend, and especially Board members Ellen Keats and Suzanne Sennatt, who provide guidance and support all year long, and Andrew Mitchell-Namdar and the Mitchell family for hosting and supplying the fashions. Thanks to Warren Tricomi Salon for styling the hair and make-up of the models. And a huge thanks to the parents, guests, and volunteers who support this event and all of the Junior Committee activities.
