Items of Comfort and Care
What do women need during the treatment phase of breast cancer? Here are some key items recommended by the women of BCA One-to-One. They also note: always check with your physician before taking medication of any kind.
Surgery/Reconstruction
- Food from friends (with someone to schedule meals to avoid multiple deliveries)
- Leisure bra after a lumpectomy
- Loose clothing
- Front-buttoning shirts (also nightgowns and pajamas)
- Pillow for leaving the hospital
- Full body down (or soft) pillow for support from top to bottom
- Mederma® for scars
Chemotherapy/Radiation
- Satin pillowcase
- Miralax® and/or aloe capsules for constipation
- Tea tree oil for nails and cuticles
- Soft cotton caps to keep head warm after hair loss
- Big cotton scarves
- Glucosamine for joint aches
- Ponaris® nasal emollient drops that lubricate after each treatment
- Mylanta® – great relief from chemo burn
- Ginger ale
- Massage
- Scented candles
- Good books for reading
- Cotton camisoles that be slipped off easily

- Weekly pill box to keep track of dosage
